Run 00 / Financial services

Controls that close out at the end of the day.

The FTC Safeguards Rule requires a financial institution to commit an information security program to writing, then to actually operate the safeguards named in it. Committing it to writing is the half most practices finish. This book is the other half, sold entry by entry and worked by Fortify 24x7 the way a clearing house works a settlement: presented, matched, and anything still unmatched carried into tomorrow with a name beside it.

Run 01 / The open items

Four items that never quite reconcile.

None of the four arrive announcing themselves. Each arrives instead as a routine nobody examined for two or three years, surfacing later on as a notification letter, an uncomfortable telephone call with a client, or a paragraph inside an examination report.

ITEM 01

A cut-off nobody ever set

Controls that run when somebody remembers have no cut-off, which means nothing is ever late and nothing is ever finished. The patch window, the restore test, the access review: each one is fine in principle and unowned in practice. The first thing a settlement discipline supplies is a time by which a thing is either done or visibly not done.

ITEM 02

Two books that disagree

The device count in your payroll system, the count in whichever tool was installed last, and the number of machines genuinely holding client material are three different figures. Every per unit control depends on one of them being right, and nobody has reconciled them since the last time somebody was hired in a hurry.

ITEM 03

An open item quietly ageing

An alert nobody closed, a restore nobody tested, an approval request nobody answered. Open items age, and age is what turns a small thing into a finding. The value of a desk is not that it sees more. It is that it will not let an item sit unresolved for a quarter.

ITEM 04

A position you cannot value

A folder of client records has a real cost attached to it, and the cost only becomes calculable once you know the folder exists and what is inside. Firms carry these positions for years without valuing them, and then discover the figure during the week they least want to be doing arithmetic.

Run 02 / The six sessions

Six sessions. Take whichever ones your program requires.

A session gathers the entries that settle together, names the platform carrying them, and commits to paper the point where their usefulness runs out. Nothing arrives bundled, no entry is a tier, and every one carries a monthly per unit figure readable without a conversation.

SESSION 01SentinelOne with Fluency

Alerting and response

An agent on each machine reading conduct rather than signatures, something above it drawing the estate together, and engineers who move on whatever appears.

  • Machines under Windows, macOS, or Linux, plus every node in a cluster.
  • Fluency binds authentication records, message traffic, and network flow into one item.
  • Reaction at three grades: advice alone, then more, then isolation with reversal.

SESSION 02ThreatLocker

Execution approval

Listed software opens client files. What the list omits meets a refusal as it tries to start, and no recognition step stands in between.

  • An observation stretch builds that list out of what the office genuinely runs.
  • Vendor releases get tracked, so no update shuts a preparer out during filing season.
  • A ringfence governs the reach of a listed program: which files, which processes, which addresses.

SESSION 03Ironscales

Mailbox and pretext

Protection joined inside the tenant over its own API, examining messages that have already arrived, with short instruction aimed at whoever is likeliest to be asked.

  • Reaches Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace by API. Never a gateway.
  • Detection for impersonation and for account takeover, tuned on your own tenant history.
  • Simulation and short modules issued on results, never on a calendar.

SESSION 04Addigy and Zimperium alongside N-able N-sight

The device book

Machines held current, browsing held under a filter, Apple hardware held to a profile, and handsets somebody genuinely looks at.

  • Patching, inventory, scripting, and remote hands all sit on N-able N-sight.
  • Resolution filtering and web filtering ride that agent too, so nothing else gets racked.
  • Addigy takes the Apple hardware. Zimperium takes handsets, on iOS and on Android.

SESSION 05Actifile

Client records

Find client material before trying to govern it, because an unfound folder is an ungoverned folder, and only then rule on what it is permitted to do.

  • Examines workstations and shares for material that is regulated or proprietary.
  • Prices exposure one device at a time, and a price is what gives remediation a queue.
  • Encryption, plus route control over the paths material genuinely departs along.

SESSION 06Dropsuite alongside N-able Cove

Copies and recovery

Every copy sits apart from what it covers, and the return is proved to a schedule rather than taken on faith.

  • Images and file copies lifted from a workstation, from metal, from a hypervisor guest.
  • The Microsoft tenant sits with N-able Cove. Dropsuite carries Workspace, the ledger, and the directory.
  • Verification of the restore, to a schedule, which makes recovery a dated fact and not a hope.

Run 03 / Platforms

None of these were built here. All of them are run here.

Somewhere along the way it became normal in this trade to suggest a managed service had been built by whoever sells it. This one was not. Ten commercial platforms carry FinShield Tech. Each was chosen for surviving genuine load, each carries a Fortify 24x7 license, and each has somebody paid to watch it. We would rather name them and give you a telephone number than hand over a sealed box.

SentinelOne

Judges conduct locally, and acts on its own finding, over every operating system and cluster node this book names.

Fluency

Holds the joined record, so an item turns up with the authentication, the message, and the traffic around it already attached.

ThreatLocker

Keeps the approved list, applies it the instant something tries to start, and fences in whatever was approved.

Ironscales

Lives inside the mail tenant, reached by API. Protection at the mailbox, explicitly not a gateway, and we decline to blur those two.

N-able N-sight

One agent doing inventory, patching, scripting, remote hands, and resolution filtering for every machine in the book.

Addigy

Holds Apple hardware to a configuration in writing, rather than trusting Mac and iOS to see to themselves.

Zimperium

Judges from the handset, since a phone that a payment instruction gets read on is an endpoint the same as any other.

Actifile

Finds client material, prices what its presence costs, and encrypts whatever deserves encrypting without moving it.

N-able Cove

Lifts images and file copies from a workstation, from metal, from a hypervisor guest, or from a Microsoft tenant, then proves the return.

Dropsuite

Copies a Google Workspace tenant, the settings inside an Entra ID directory, and whichever QuickBooks Online company nobody holds locally.

Ten platforms named, one desk answering, one figure billed
Run 04 / The settlement day

How a day here actually runs.

Provisioning is not a mystery and ought not to be sold as one. Five stages in sequence, each with its work named and roughly when it lands. After the opening pass this becomes the shape of an ordinary day.

Stage 01

Presentation

Entries chosen, a figure written beside whichever unit an entry counts, card taken. Pricing never waits on a conversation here.

Stage 02

Matching

Tenant raised, agent packages cut, authorization requests issued against whichever cloud accounts you put under cover. Usually inside a working day.

Stage 03

Opening run

One complete traverse of your scope, which is what makes it the slow one. Keep hardware powered through it. After that, only differences move.

Stage 04

Tuning

Lists firm up, exceptions accumulate against the filters, and schedules get sized to the volumes actually carried. Some short traffic from us belongs at this point.

Stage 05

In settlement

Items land with our desk. Your record carries the entries, the packages, and every instruction anybody has raised.

Run 05 / What never clears

Five things we will not tell you, however the question is phrased.

Nearly every product sold to a financial practice this decade gets called a compliance solution by somebody. Our position sits here, where it can be read before a purchase instead of after one.

  • NOT SOLD

These are controls, not compliance. The entries in this book support technical safeguards a Safeguards Rule program is expected to operate. Running them does not make a firm compliant, and no combination of them adds up to compliance on its own.

  • NOT US

We are not auditors and we are not lawyers. Nobody here can assess your program, sign anything on your behalf, or tell you what an obligation requires of your firm. When you need that, you need somebody licensed to give it, and we will say so.

  • NOT PROMISED

No outcome is guaranteed. Controls shorten the distance between something starting and somebody answering it. They do not abolish incidents, and anyone selling that abolition is selling a thing which has never once existed.

  • NOT WRITTEN

We do not write your program. The written information security program, the risk assessment behind it, and the named person responsible for it are your firm's work. We supply dated records that the technical controls ran.

  • NOT CLAIMED

We publish no numbers we cannot show you. There are no client counts, detection rates, or years in business quoted anywhere on this site, because any figure you cannot check is worthless to you and costs us nothing to print.

Run 06 / The book

Every entry, with the rate attached.

Figures here are read from billing when the page loads. Present what you want as you read, and the arithmetic travels with you between pages.

The figures failed to arrive. Reloading usually deals with it. Where the book stays blank, write to support@finshieldtech.com and it gets priced by hand.
